Tea Tours

Compassion in a Cup: Tea Tour

(Once monthly, dates TBA)
3-6pm

We will travel together by subway train to Chinatown (Flushing, NYC) where we will experience the healing power of a simple, ancient tea ceremony. The tea is grown by master gardeners in Taiwan and mainland China, who maintain the traditional art of tea. Along the way, we will learn and share in contemplative exercises to offer ourselves and others loving-kindness and compassion.

At Fang Tea, we will be served by students and teachers of chinese tea ceremony in a lovely setting replete with Zen paintings and poetry. During our teatime, we will share impressions of the ride and use of the contemplations as an experience of embodying the Tao (Way) of Tea. Included in this tour will be an opportunity to purchase tea, teaware, and explore how to integrate these contemplations and a simplified form of teatime in your daily routine.

Magical Tea Tour

Wednesday and/or select Sunday afternoons (dates to be announced)

Willy Wonka meets Harry Potter meets the Tea Master. This festive adventure takes us to lower Manhattan, beginning in Soho. We'll visit a marvelous candy factory and watch as they transform simple ingredients into gorgeous, rainbow-colored candy in an array of wild flavors. Plenty of samples and opportunities to buy some to take home.

Then, we'll stroll through Manhattan's Chinatown, taking in the open-air markets with their dazzling assortment of food and keepsakes. Finally, we'll visit Ten Ren, a playfully elegant tea shop, which is world renowned. There, we'll experience a traditional chinese tea ceremony. And if you want to try something less traditional, such as the tasty Taiwanese sensation, "Bubble tea," there'll be an opportunity to purchase this as well as tea and teaware to take home.

Along the way, hear stories of how tea made its way to these shores and how you might enjoy the magic of teatime with your family and friends.
